Big Change
Starts Small

From bringing your own bags to the grocery store, to drinking from a reusable water bottle, to making sustainable choices when you shop—all these small efforts add up and allow us to do big things together.

For every item purchased we plant ten trees, in an effort to regenerate ecosystems and provide planting jobs in communities around the world. All our products are created with an Earth-First approach, meaning they’re made in fair, safe working conditions, with sustainably sourced and manufactured textiles.

Our Roots

Trees were rooted in our founders’ storylines from the very beginning. At the ages of 16 and 17, brothers Kalen and Derrick Emsley started a tree-planting business focused on offsetting carbon emissions for a variety of companies.

Not long after, in 2011, Kalen and David Luba, tentree’s cofounders, were hiking in the heart of Hawaii, when the idea of tentree was formed. They were inspired by their beautiful surroundings and driven by the need to protect it. By combining their desire to make an impact with their belief that environmentalism should be inspiring and inclusive, they created tentree: the world’s first environmentally progressive brand where for every item sold, ten trees would be planted. A brand not merely focused on reducing its negative impact, but also on creating a positive impact. Today, tentree has become a company that is inspiring a new generation to embrace social and environmental responsibility.

With more than 70 million trees planted, a global community numbering in the millions, and distribution expanding from North America to Europe and beyond, tentree is on a mission to change the world — ten trees at a time.

Our Story

We believe tree planting is our best chance at fighting climate change—and between record-breaking heatwaves and eye-opening climate reports, the world needs it now more than ever.

Through collaborating with some of the world's most influential brands, we're able to spread our message far and wide. We've built campaigns with National Geographic that inspire future generations to protect our planet, partnered with US Forest Services to educate our community on global warming and forest fire safety — and we're constantly forming new connections to grow our reach.

Thanks to our community, we've even been able to help tree planting go viral. In 2019, our "Double Tap to Plant a Tree" post was the most liked on instagram (ever) at over 15 million likes. This record-setting campaign led to us planting 500 000 trees in Indonesia that year.

We're proud of our successes, but are always future-focused on ways to accelerate tree planting across the globe. In 2021, we joined the 1 Trillion Tree Movement with 1T.org and the World Economic Forum to conserve, restore and grow 1 trillion trees by 2030.

In an effort to give others the tools to plant trees as effectively as us, we launched veritree — a blockchain-enabled verification software that helps deliver realtime data to planting organizations. It's at the heart of our own planting process, and powers our customer-facing Impact Wallet, a tool that customers can use to track their planting journey.

Nestwear

Sustainability, meet comfort. These everyday sweat sets are made ethically, use only recycled and organic materials — and don't ever skimp on softness.

Kidswear

We've gone the extra mile to make sure every hoodie, t-shirt or pair of sweats you put on your little one is made of materials that are kind to them — and the planet.

Our Materials

Whether it's our TreeFleece and TreeBlend fabrics' TENCEL™ lyocell and REPREVE™ recycled polyester, or our sustainable underwear's REFIBRA™ blend of lyocell and upcycled cotton—our product team sources only the most ethical and sustainable materials on the market.

As a brand, we're dedicated not only to creating products sustainably, but making sure they can be disposed of or recycled sustainably, too. For instance, our C2C collection (Cradle to Cradle) is designed and produced so that at the end of life, these clothes can be composted and returned back to the Earth.

And though 98% of all of our products are eco-friendly, we're always looking to innovate with new materials, like recycled nylon, cotton and naturally dyed or undyed fabrics.

All our items are are made to last both in the way they're designed and manufactured. Our design team utilizes scrap materials, timeless designs and all-season colour palettes with eco-friendly material finishes. All of our factories are regularly audited to ensure they comply with tentree's code of ethics.

Our Impact

We’ve empowered a global movement that now spans more than 20 planting sites in more than 10 countries around the world. These sites exist all around the world — in Madagascar, Indonesia, Senegal, Nepal, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Haiti and Brazil. Through planting at these locations we're able to build healthy, resilient ecosystems and strengthen local economies.

In many of the areas we plant, people struggle to afford to feed their families or send their children to school. Utilizing an employ-to-plant model, tentree’s efforts have provided over 280 full-time jobs to those individuals that otherwise wouldn’t have had one.

Trees don’t just sequester carbon and cool the earth—like all life on earth, each tree is important to its unique environment. That's why we plant only native species; the Mangrove trees we plant in Madagascar protect coastlines and prevent erosion, while pineapple plants in Indonesia provide food and income to communities. tentree plants all these trees and more to ensure our diverse environment has the best chance to survive and thrive for generations to come.

Our Commitment

We are committed not only to planting trees, but to making apparel with the smallest possible footprint and with increasingly circular supply chains. We've accomplished a lot since we started, but will never stop striving towards a greener, more sustainable future.

tentree is proud to be the third highest ranking B Corporation in the apparel category, winning their "best for community" award for three years running. This means we’re committed to minimizing our environmental impact, uplifting the well-being of our people with ethical labour rights, safe workplaces, and recognizing our social responsibility to keep our business practices as transparent as possible.

We're also Climate Neutral Certified, meaning we're able to keep our emissions at net zero year after year.

All this came from a few ambitious tree planters only 10 years ago. Since then we’ve planted over 70 million trees, removed 6.7 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere, provided 4.5 million hours of tree planting work, and reforested over 14,000 hectares of land.

...And it all started with just ten trees. By 2030, we’ll be at 1 billion.
